A total of 300 MBBS seats across four private medical colleges in Maharashtra are still not part of the current admission cycle, even though the National Medical Commission (NMC) has listed or approved the intake at those institutions.

According to the NMC's MBBS seat matrix for 2026-27, Mauli Medical College Hospital and Research Center in Buldhana district is listed with 100 seats and the Ideal Institute of Medical Science in Palghar with 50 seats. Medical Dialogues reported that both new colleges are yet to receive the state government resolution and affiliation from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), so they have not joined the Centralised Admission Process (CAP).

Where the 300 seats are stuck

150 seats at the two new colleges (Mauli, Buldhana — 100; Ideal, Palghar — 50) plus 150 additional seats approved at two existing colleges — Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College in Pune and Smt. Sakhubai Narayanrao Katkade Medical College in Kopargaon, whose totals rise to 150 each — are yet to be included in the state seat matrix.

The State CET Cell, replying to a query raised on October 17 by Khan, president of the Mission Awareness Foundation, said only colleges that have received the government GR and university affiliation are considered for admissions, and that the colleges will participate when they get the required permissions, Medical Dialogues reported. Careers360 reported the same position: 150 seats at the two new colleges await approval for CAP, with the additional seats taking the pending total to 300.

Mirror Now reported that the university's position stems from identified shortcomings in areas including campus infrastructure, faculty staffing and patient volume for clinical training, and that officials indicated little chance of the seats being reinstated for the current year. Parent representative Sudha Shenoy questioned the discrepancy between the university and the national regulator, and student counsellor Sachin Bangad said seats approved by the NMC should ideally be made available within the established timeframe, the report said.

What is solid

  • The NMC seat matrix for 2026-27 lists Mauli Medical College, Buldhana with 100 MBBS seats and Ideal Institute of Medical Science, Palghar with 50 seats.
  • Both new colleges are yet to receive the government GR and MUHS affiliation required to join the state admission process, the CET Cell said.
  • Additional seats at Kashibai Navale, Pune and Sakhubai Narayanrao Katkade, Kopargaon taking their totals to 150 each are yet to enter the state seat matrix — 300 seats in total are pending.

What is only claimed

  • Mirror Now attributes the exclusion to MUHS citing shortcomings in infrastructure, faculty and clinical patient volume; the CET Cell's stated position is that colleges are considered only after the government GR and university affiliation are received.
