Three workers were rescued after the slab of an under-construction commercial building collapsed in the Chikalthana area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, while a search operation continued for one more worker feared trapped beneath the debris, ANI reported.

The incident took place on Jalna Road, when the slab of the first-floor roof of the building suddenly collapsed during construction. According to preliminary information, the iron pipes used to support the roof structure bent during the concrete-pouring process, causing the slab to give way.

Around 15 workers were present at the construction site when the slab collapsed. Senior Police Inspector G S Raire of the CIDCO MIDC police station told ANI that eight to nine workers managed to escape, while four were at the lower level — of these, two sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital, one managed to come out safely, and one worker remained trapped under the debris.

Rescue operation continues

Fire department, police and rescue teams cleared debris with heavy machinery, including JCB machines, cranes and two Poclain excavators, and a canine unit was deployed to assist the search. Raire said senior officers, including the ACP, DCP and the Commissioner of Police, visited the site, while municipal corporation and medical teams remained present at the spot.

The operation was proving challenging because the rubble had become heavily compacted and the concrete slab had hardened, making the debris difficult to remove. "Our teams are working continuously, and we are making every effort to complete the rescue as quickly as possible," Raire said.
