The Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police on Wednesday arrested two builders for allegedly constructing an unauthorised eight-storey residential building in Virar East on forged approvals and selling 113 flats in it, officials said. The building stands at Naringi village in Virar East, in Maharashtra's Palghar district, adjoining Mumbai.

The arrested men have been identified as Kamlesh Mahadev Patil, 40, and Vishal Vinayak Patil, 38, both residents of Naringi village. According to a police statement, the accused allegedly relied on fabricated construction permissions and fake commencement certificates to get the flats registered and sold.

Police said the alleged scheme cheated unsuspecting flat buyers and also caused losses to the government. An FIR was registered at Virar police station on October 19 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions relating to cheating and criminal breach of trust.

A local court has remanded both accused to police custody until October 29. Investigators are also examining whether other people were involved in preparing the allegedly forged documents, securing the registrations or facilitating the flat sales. The allegations are yet to be proved in court.
