Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday, October 21, announced significant welfare decisions for police personnel and the families of martyrs at the state-level Police Commemoration Day Parade 2026 at the Martyrs' Memorial complex in Lal Parade Ground, Bhopal, news agency IANS reported. The Chief Minister said the financial assistance provided by the government to the families of martyred police personnel will now be divided equally — 50 per cent to the spouse and the remaining 50 per cent to the parents. Reports put the existing ex-gratia assistance at Rs 1 crore (yaani one crore rupees) per martyr's family, with the new announcement fixing how that amount is shared between the spouse and the parents.
Yadav also reiterated the government's decision to ensure timely promotions of police personnel and the recruitment of new staff to strengthen the force. He received the salute from the parade, accepted the roll of honour and laid a wreath at the martyrs' memorial. Contingents of the District Police, the Special Armed Force including women's platoons, Home Guards, the colour party, the police band, a mounted unit and a dog squad took part in the ceremony, IANS reported.
The Chief Minister paid tributes to the nine police officers and personnel from Madhya Pradesh who laid down their lives while discharging their duties this year. Director General of Police Kailash Makwana expressed condolences to the families of the nine martyrs and said the families are an integral part of the police family and that looking after them is a moral responsibility.
Highlighting what he described as a major achievement, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh has successfully eradicated the menace of Naxalism, which he said had plagued the state for nearly 35 years. He credited the police personnel and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the outcome, calling it a moment of immense pride for the state. He concluded by urging the force to keep meeting emerging challenges such as cybercrime and drug trafficking, and underlined the role of the police and armed forces in safeguarding national security, peace and social order.
