Nabha (Patiala district): A video of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurdev Singh Dev Mann, who represents Nabha in the Punjab Assembly, has gone viral on social media and triggered a political controversy.

In the viral video, the MLA is purportedly seen kicking and slapping a young man, with a police personnel also visible at the spot. The clip is said to be CCTV footage; it has not been officially verified, so all claims about it remain alleged.

After the video surfaced, BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu said that those who until yesterday roamed on bicycles pretending to be common people were now, after coming to power, openly indulging in hooliganism. Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira and other opposition leaders also shared the video, raised questions, and demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter.

MLA Dev Mann, presenting his version, said a motorcycle had narrowly avoided hitting his car; when he stopped to check, the youth started running away and the police were also chasing him, after which he was surrounded and caught. He said it was not right to raise political questions by sharing the video without full information, and that information about drug sellers should be given to the police so action can be taken under the law.

Police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
