The District Police Office Sunsari said four people were arrested on 18 October after police recovered 915 kg 680 g (915.68 kg) of marijuana from a house at Gyanodaya Tole in Inaruwa Municipality-4, in Nepal's Sunsari district.

Police searched the house of local resident Bulbul Yadav, near the Hanuman temple, after receiving information that marijuana was allegedly being sold and distributed there; the marijuana was found hidden in a room of the house.

Police named those arrested as house owner Bulbul Yadav, 36, Santosh Yadav, 23, and Ashish Yadav, 30, of Inaruwa Municipality, and Kundan Yadav, 22, of Duhabi Municipality. They were detained on accusations of transporting, selling and distributing marijuana — allegations that remain under investigation — and are being held at the District Police Office Sunsari.

Police also took a motorcycle into their control along with the marijuana. Hemraj Oli, assistant information officer at the District Police Office Sunsari, said the marijuana was recovered while preparations were allegedly under way to take it across the Indian border during the festival season. Locals say marijuana grown in Dhankuta is taken through Sunsari to the Indian market.
