A total of 313 people were injured in the crashes, which were reported in Kathmandu, Sunsari, Makawanpur, Morang and Tanahun districts, police said. The figures cover multiple separate incidents across the country in the 24-hour period, not one single accident.
The same police figures were carried in a multi-outlet news cluster on Thursday that included Ratopati, MyRepublica, Annapurna Express and eKantipur, which said investigations into the causes of the crashes were under way. Police have not released a district-by-district breakdown of the deaths and injuries in the reports carried so far.
The 5 deaths and 313 injuries are Nepal Police Headquarters' combined count for separate road accidents nationwide over 24 hours. No single crash accounts for the total.
