This is not the first attack on the post. In Ashadh earlier this year, the then in-charge of the same Ramnagar Kodarkatti post, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Kumar Yadav, was also allegedly beaten by a group suspected of involvement in smuggling, according to the reports. Saptari is one of the eight districts of Madhesh Province bordering India, and police say smuggling across the open border remains a persistent problem in the area. The alleged attack remains under investigation.
