What organisers say happened at Camp III
According to Bodhraj Bhandari, managing director of Snowy Horizon Treks, Waschiczek summited on October 25 with his guide Sonam Lama and descended to Camp III, at around 6,200 metres, that evening, where the pair stayed overnight after borrowing a sleeping bag and other gear from other climbers. On the morning of October 26, while preparing to descend to a lower camp, he was asked to wait with his safety gear while Lama went to return the borrowed gear.

When Lama returned within a few minutes, Waschiczek was no longer at the spot, and he was found not to have been wearing crampons, Bhandari said. A Kailash helicopter with a search team was mobilised, and the body was recovered later that day. The exact circumstances of the fall have not been officially established.

Ama Dablam, in the Everest region of Solukhumbu, is one of Nepal's most popular autumn climbing peaks, and hundreds of mountaineers have received permits for it during the current September-November season, Reuters reported. Organisers said this was the first casualty on Ama Dablam this season.
