Pheriche is a key stop on the Everest trekking route, and Solukhumbu — home to Mount Everest and several major trekking destinations — is one of Nepal's busiest regions for helicopter operations, particularly during the peak climbing and trekking seasons. Helicopters are frequently used in the mountains for tourist transport, rescues and emergency evacuations.

The collision has raised fresh concerns about helicopter landing safety and air traffic coordination at helipads in Nepal's mountainous tourism regions. What happens next: CAAN is gathering further details on how the two aircraft came to strike each other while landing, and officials said more information on the damage to the helicopters and the condition of the injured person is awaited.
