CHANDIGARH — Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan said in Chandigarh on Wednesday, October 28, that his party is gradually preparing to contest elections in Punjab, widening the field taking shape ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Paswan said the party's Punjab state executive committee was also meeting in Chandigarh on Wednesday, and that after the meeting the entire team, under party in-charge K.P. Chaudhary, would review the position and share details. He was in the city for a youth interaction programme organised at CGC University in Mohali.

On youth outreach, Paswan said problems concerning the country's youth could only be solved through constructive dialogue, and backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of engaging young people on every possible platform. He said there is resentment among the youth today, and that solutions must come from understanding their perspective.
On Punjab's law-and-order situation, Paswan — speaking as an opposition figure in the state — called the situation alarming, citing daily murders, rampant drug abuse and violent criminal activity in his remarks. He said he has a deep personal connection with Punjab, as his maternal family is from the state. These are his party's political claims about the AAP government's record, not findings of any inquiry.
Paswan also dismissed opposition criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying in his remarks that the protests over it had yielded no benefit and that the opposition has continued to lose wherever elections are held.
The LJP-Ram Vilas, a BJP ally at the Centre, has historically not contested elections in Punjab, and Paswan announced no seat count, candidate or alliance arrangement for the state on Wednesday. What the party decides after its state executive review — and whether it contests on its own or as part of an arrangement — remains to be announced.
