CHANDIGARH — The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has submitted a fresh supplementary chargesheet against senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets case before a special court in Mohali, months ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

The bureau claims to have traced an alleged financial trail of Rs 736.96 crore — yaani roughly Rs 737 crore — linked to Majithia and his associates. According to reports of the bureau's findings, the transactions include Rs 161 crore in alleged unaccounted cash deposits, Rs 141 crore allegedly routed through suspected foreign entities and Rs 236 crore in alleged unexplained company deposits. These are the investigating agency's claims, not a court finding of guilt.

The supplementary filing, reported to run to around 40,000 pages, names several individuals, including Gurmehar Singh, Majithia's brother-in-law Gajpat Singh Grewal, Harpreet Gulati and Amardeep Singh, and refers to 10 companies allegedly connected to the transactions. The allegations relate to the period from 2007 to 2017, when Majithia held ministerial office in the SAD-BJP government.

What the government side said

Punjab cabinet minister Aman Arora, speaking to reporters, called the filing a historic day for Punjab and said those who abused power were now facing legal consequences, ANI reported. 'Justice may be delayed, but it is never denied,' Arora said, according to ANI.

Majithia's position and the case history

Majithia has denied the allegations against him. The Vigilance Bureau had registered FIR No. 22 against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and arrested him in June 2025; he spent nearly seven months in judicial custody before the Supreme Court granted him regular bail on February 2, 2026. Bail is not an acquittal, and the allegations remain to be tested in court.

The case is linked in the bureau's probe to an earlier 2021 NDPS FIR and alleged drug-money laundering — again, allegations that the court has yet to decide. What happens next: the Mohali special court will take up the supplementary chargesheet, and Majithia's side will get its opportunity to contest the bureau's figures and evidence in the judicial process.
