Sangrur: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday, October 31, said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's record of development, employment generation and clean governance would earn it another mandate, as he addressed a large gathering at a Lok Milni in Moran (Mauran) village of Sangrur district after inaugurating a newly constructed sports ground, Bright Punjab Express and Punjab Newsline reported. Mann handed over a cheque of Rs 51 lakh for development works in the village.

In a post on X quoted in the reports, Mann stated: 'Today, I addressed a massive gathering at the Lok Milni in Moran village. I also handed over a cheque of Rs 51 lakh for the village's development works. Your love and trust are our greatest strength.' The sports ground he inaugurated was built at a cost of Rs 67.16 lakh and has a volleyball court, a football ground, a six-lane 400-metre running track and a cricket pitch, TV9 Punjabi and Malwa News reported. Mann said 3,100 sports grounds were being built across Punjab to channel the energy of the youth towards sports and away from drugs — a government claim.

Attack on a possible SAD-BJP reunion

Mann alleged that the traditional parties — the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the BJP and the Congress — had looted Punjab and betrayed its people, an allegation, not a finding. Taking aim at what he described as the Akali Dal's eagerness to ally with the BJP, he recalled the farmers' protest against the three farm laws at Delhi's borders, during which, he said, 750 farmers lost their lives. 'If the Akali Dal and BJP come together, the people of Punjab will reject them at the hustings and ensure that their candidates lose their security deposits,' he said. No response from the SAD, the BJP or the Congress to the Moran remarks had been reported in the sources read when this story was published.

Listing his government's record — all of it in his own claims at the meeting — Mann said more than 70,000 government jobs had been given to eligible youth without corruption and over six lakh additional employment opportunities generated through investment; that government-school students clearing NEET had risen from 80 in 2021 to 882 in 2026; that canal water had reached 1,587 villages for the first time, with Rs 7,200 crore spent on the canal network; that every resident family was entitled to cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna; and that under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, women above 18 would receive Rs 1,000 a month and Scheduled Caste women Rs 1,500 a month, for which Rs 9,300 crore had been earmarked. He also said more than 90 per cent of households were receiving free electricity and that closed toll plazas were saving commuters around Rs 70 lakh a day. These are the Chief Minister's claims, presented by him at a public meeting, and are reported as such.

The Moran address came on the same day AAP released its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with Mann himself renominated from Dhuri — a development Awaaz Punjab has already reported. The Lok Milni format, in which the Chief Minister meets village residents directly and hands over development grants, has become a regular part of the AAP government's outreach in the run-up to the 2027 polls.
