The resolution was moved by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on the concluding sitting of the Assembly session. Bains said the passage represents far more than a physical route, standing as a vital symbol of religious freedom, human kinship and shared cultural heritage.
Cabinet members urged the central authorities to simplify clearance procedures, emphasising the need to assist elderly and infirm devotees seeking to visit the historic shrine. Bains said the corridor connects deeply with the emotions of millions of devotees worldwide and reflects the historical pain of families separated during the 1947 Partition, adding that the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji transcend geographic borders.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also spoke on the resolution concerning the Kartarpur Corridor, in remarks carried by The Tribune. Separately, in his Assembly address the same day, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann pledged that his government's voice for unrestricted, open darshan at Sri Kartarpur Sahib would always remain loud, Nation Press reported.

The Kartarpur Corridor, opened in November 2019 under a bilateral framework, gives Indian pilgrims visa-free access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, where Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the last years of his life. The resolution now puts the demand for its reopening formally before the Centre.
