The general session will be held at 12 noon on November 20 at Teja Singh Samundri Hall in Amritsar, Kahlwan said. The Tribune reported that the session will elect the SGPC's new body, as the annual general session is when the committee's president and office-bearers are chosen.

Jhota portrait formally approved

The executive committee approved a tribute to Bhai Parvinder Singh Jhota and decided to install his portrait at the Central Sikh Museum, located inside the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. Dhami had first announced the portrait on October 17, after meeting Jhota's father, Bhim Singh, in Mansa, PTI reported at the time. Jhota, an anti-drug activist, was shot dead in Mansa on October 13, and his killing has since driven sustained protests in the district.

The committee also approved financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh for the family of a youth who died of electrocution during an event organised in memory of Jhota.

Khalra memorial land and Dharmi Fauji assistance

In another decision, the SGPC approved the purchase of land at Harike to establish a memorial in memory of human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, and said an annual event will also be organised at the memorial. The committee further approved financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each for 479 Dharmi Fauji personnel, and cleared a 3 per cent dearness allowance (DA) instalment for SGPC employees.

The executive committee also passed a resolution condemning what it described as disrespect towards the dupattas of Sikh women and the turbans of Sikh youths by the Punjab Police. The resolution records the SGPC's allegation; the police have not responded to it in the reports so far.
