The Congress sit-in inside the Jaipur Police Commissionerate entered its third day on Wednesday, October 21, with Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra sustaining a leg injury during the protest, news agencies ANI and IANS reported. Dotasra slipped on the stairs inside the premises and a medical team was called to examine him. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully told ANI: "He has sustained an injury to his leg; a doctor has just examined him. He will not be able to move around for the next several days."
Congress leaders and workers, led by Dotasra and Jully, have been sitting in at the Commissionerate since Monday night, demanding that a Zero FIR be registered in Jaipur in connection with the alleged assault on NSUI national secretary Ritu Barala by police personnel during a protest in Delhi. A heavy police deployment remained in place around the premises, with barricades at the gates. Jully alleged that washrooms inside had been kept locked and held the police administration responsible for the circumstances of Dotasra's injury, while IANS reported that former ministers Pratap Singh Khachariyawas and Krishna Poonia were stopped at the main gate.
Khachariyawas said the leaders had been at the Commissionerate for more than 24 hours because no case had been registered, and asserted that the party was entitled to seek a Zero FIR under Section 173(3), adding that Congress was prepared to approach the court if necessary. Dotasra had earlier demanded that police produce a copy of any FIR registered in Delhi in the Barala matter, saying the party would leave if such a copy were provided.
The police administration's position, as reported by IANS, is that the alleged incident occurred in Delhi, where a complaint has already been filed and the investigation is being handled there. Congress has rejected that position and continued the sit-in. The party has also alleged that police used force against Youth Congress workers protesting outside the Commissionerate late on Tuesday night, injuring several of them — an allegation the reports did not attribute to a police response. With Dotasra injured and the sit-in in its third day, the confrontation between the Congress leadership and the Jaipur police administration has intensified, and the party says it may pursue legal remedies if a Zero FIR is not registered.
