Sultana SHO Ramniwas said preliminary investigation indicated that Shiv and Deependra had allegedly killed their father, Jugal Kishore Jangid, during a domestic dispute. The brothers allegedly told relatives and others that he had gone to Mumbai, and claimed that the buried remains belonged to an unidentified person.

Police received information on October 17 about a body buried near a house in the village. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team examined the site, and the body was identified as Jugal Kishore. His cousin, Pawan Kumar, lodged a report on October 18, and questioning of family members revealed that Jugal Kishore had been missing for six to seven days. Police then registered a case on suspicion that he had been murdered and buried.

Chirawa DSP Gaurav Gurjar inspected the scene, while MIU and MOB teams collected scientific evidence. A team led by SHO Ramniwas investigated the case using technical evidence and intelligence inputs, and suspicion subsequently fell on Jugal Kishore's sons, who were detained for questioning and arrested after facts concerning the incident emerged, police said.

According to Ramniwas, the brothers allegedly strangled their father in a fit of rage, poured petrol on his body, burnt it and buried it in the soil near their house. The killing is believed to have occurred five to seven days before the body was found. A court has remanded both accused in police custody for three days, and police are investigating the material allegedly used in the crime and other aspects of the case. Tezzbuzz also reported the arrests and the police account of the burial being discovered after suspicion grew in the village.
