Stopped during a vehicle check in Surrey on October 8
On the Canadian side, Surrey Police Service officers told Spectrum Punjab that at 8:19 pm on October 8, 2026, officers stopped a vehicle near Central Avenue and 134 Street in downtown Surrey, British Columbia. During their interaction with the people in the vehicle, the officers contacted the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), after which Bath was handed over to the CBSA. Surrey Police said he is currently in CBSA custody. ABP Live, citing Surrey Police, reported that the man initially identified himself as Harpreet Singh — the alias police in Punjab also record for Bath — before his identity was established and the Interpol Red Corner Notice against him was confirmed.

SSP Lamba said a Red Corner Notice had earlier been issued against Bath with the help of central agencies. He said the Canadian authorities have handed Bath to their central agencies for further proceedings, and that Punjab Police are coordinating with Indian central agencies to bring him back. No date for his return has been confirmed, and reports so far speak only of documentation and legal process having begun — not of a final extradition approval.

The cases and the political link
Investigators have alleged that Bath was involved in the conspiracy behind the January 2024 murder of sarpanch Avan Kumar, also known as Sonu Cheema. Reports say he was declared a proclaimed offender after that case. The allegation is yet to be tested in court. Bath's name had also figured in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in recent days: according to a Jagran report dated October 23, Tarn Taran MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu informed the House about Bath's arrest in Canada and appealed to all political parties to work together against gangster networks. At that stage, as TV9 Punjabi reported, the district police had not officially confirmed the arrest; the confirmation came on October 26 from SSP Lamba.

Bath is the husband of Kanchanpreet Kaur, who is linked to the Shiromani Akali Dal. Her mother, Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, contested the November 2025 Tarn Taran Assembly by-election as the Akali Dal candidate, and Kanchanpreet was active in that campaign, according to The Tribune and The Indian Express reporting cited by Spectrum Punjab. Bath is a different person from Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam, the gangster linked to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang who was detained at the Moldova border in March 2026 — the two cases involve two different men who share a first name.
