An encounter took place between police and two suspects in the area under Goindwal Sahib police station in Punjab's Tarn Taran district on Friday. Police said that in retaliatory firing in self-defence, one accused was seriously injured by a bullet and was taken into custody at the spot, while his accomplice escaped, taking advantage of the darkness and the terrain.

Police identified the arrested accused as Manpreet Singh alias Manna, a resident of Khawaspur village. An illegal weapon and other objectionable material were recovered from the spot, police said. Tarn Taran Police, in an official video statement, said the main accused in a recent Goindwal Sahib firing case had been arrested and an illegal pistol recovered.

The injured accused was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment under tight security, according to a press note issued by the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran.
