For Group-I posts of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), the upper age limit for general-category candidates rises from 32 to 37 years, while for reserved categories it rises from 37 to 42 years. For persons with disabilities, the Group-I cap rises from 42 to 47 years in the general category and from 47 to 52 years in reserved categories.
For Group-II and Group-II-A posts, the general-category upper age limit rises from 30 to 35 years, and for general-category candidates with disabilities from 40 to 45 years, while reserved-category candidates continue to have no upper age limit under the existing provisions. Group-IV recruitment limits have also been raised by five years, with the exact cap depending on the post and the candidate's category.
The additional five years stack on top of the concessions already given to reserved groups, including Backward Classes, Backward Class Muslims, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and destitute widows, according to reports of the government release.
What happens next: the higher limits are expected to be reflected in forthcoming recruitment notifications. Reports of the announcement did not clarify whether recruitments already notified before October 30 will be reopened or amended, so aspirants should check the exact age limit for their post in the official notification when it appears.
