Cuddalore: Schools across Cuddalore taluk in Tamil Nadu were declared closed on Tuesday, November 3, following heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Murasu, which made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast in the early hours of Tuesday. The Cuddalore District Collector issued the holiday order as thunderstorms, lightning and persistent rain disrupted normal life in several parts of the district, IANS reported.

The holiday applies to schools in Cuddalore taluk, including areas affected by intense rainfall around Cuddalore town, Reddichavadi and Nellikuppam. Cyclone Murasu, which developed over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur, close to Ongole. The storm's landfall follows Monday's precautionary closure of schools and colleges in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts ahead of the cyclone's approach.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the cyclone's impact, combined with an atmospheric circulation prevailing over southern Kerala and adjoining areas, is likely to produce rainfall across several districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rainfall is forecast at one or two places in the Nilgiris district on Tuesday, with moderate rainfall expected in parts of the Western Ghats districts, northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Chennai and its suburbs likely to see moderate rain under cloudy skies.
Interior districts of Tamil Nadu may receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Wednesday, while heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Theni and Dindigul districts on Thursday, the IMD said. No fresh school holiday was announced for Chennai for Tuesday, Jagran Josh reported, with parents and students advised to follow district administration announcements as conditions change.
