The killing has also triggered a political row over law and order in the district. Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in a post on X, claimed that seven murders had taken place in Thoothukudi in four days and questioned the district police over the incidents. That figure is Stalin's claim, made as a political criticism, and has not been independently established in the reports.
