According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Indirapuram circle) Suryabali Maurya, the attack took place at around 5.30 am on Monday at the house in Vasundhara's Sector 1, where the couple lives. The wife, Priya Sharma, allegedly left the main door of the flat ajar while leaving for the gym, and the trainer, Pratap Singh, allegedly entered and stabbed her husband, Shashank Kantharia, 35. Neighbours apprehended the trainer as he tried to escape, and the injured man was rushed to hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police said the husband and wife both work as accountants for a central government agency in Delhi, and that Sharma had joined the Fitness Headquarters gym in February, where Singh was her trainer. Investigators said the husband had discovered chats between his wife and the trainer earlier this month and had demanded that she stop going to the gym, and that he planned to shift the family to Delhi after Diwali. "She was not ready to move out to Delhi, and finally the two planned the incident in order to get married and stay together," ACP Maurya said, according to the report.
An FIR was registered at Indirapuram police station on Monday evening under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials said. The case was registered on a complaint by the victim's brother, and police said the knife used in the attack was recovered on the basis of information provided by the accused.
