A 37-year-old man, Biru Singh Bhadauria, has died in the Hanumant Vihar police station area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in circumstances his family allege amounted to murder. Police have registered a case on the family's complaint and say the matter is under investigation.

According to the family, Bhadauria, a salesman with a food products company, was returning home after visiting a fair on Tuesday night when a man identified as Mewalal arrived in a car with three other youths, including one named Rajveer. The family allege the men stopped Bhadauria, assaulted him, and hit him with the car when he tried to flee, allegedly because of an old rivalry. These are allegations that police have not confirmed.

The family further allege that Bhadauria was placed on the roof of the car and driven at high speed for approximately 1.5 km with his hands trapped in the car's window glass, before being thrown off. Daily Jagran, citing the family and his father Ram Shankar Singh, reported that he was then allegedly run over before the occupants fled. Passersby informed the police and the family, and Bhadauria was taken first to a private hospital and then referred to Hallet Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Jagran report.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Rahul said that on October 21, complainant Pradeep Shukla submitted a written complaint at Hanumant Vihar police station stating that Bhadauria died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle. The ACP said further legal action would follow the facts established during the investigation. Police are examining CCTV footage, and a video purportedly showing the incident has circulated on social media. The family told police that more than 12 CCTV cameras in the area captured the sequence, and Nation Press reported that an eyewitness named Rahul supported the family's account — claims investigators are still verifying.

On Thursday, the family blocked the Hamirpur highway with Bhadauria's body to protest what they described as inadequate police action and to demand the immediate arrest of those they hold responsible. Nation Press reported the blockade was lifted after police assured the family of appropriate action. No formal arrests, and no reclassification of the case from a road incident to murder, had been publicly confirmed at the time of reporting.
