Lucknow — Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday levelled a sharp charge against the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government over the ongoing TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) recruitment, alleging open injustice to the PDA bloc — Pichhda (OBC), Dalit and Alpsankhyak (minority) communities — in the way reservation quotas have been applied.

Posting in Hindi on X, Yadav alleged that EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) seats in the recruitment exceed the constitutionally mandated 10% ceiling by more than one-and-a-half times, while seats for OBC, SC and ST candidates fall significantly below their prescribed numbers. The 10% EWS quota was introduced by the 103rd Constitutional Amendment of 2019, over and above the existing OBC, SC and ST quotas. Yadav's post did not give exact seat numbers, and NationPress noted the precise figures in his post could not be independently confirmed.

What the published vacancy table shows

The UP TGT recruitment being conducted through the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission covers 17,735 assistant teacher posts — 16,193 in boys' schools and 1,542 in girls' schools. The published category-wise distribution lists 6,704 General, 3,698 SC, 13 ST, 4,438 OBC and 2,882 EWS seats. On those totals, EWS seats work out to about 16.25% of all posts, while ST seats are 13 out of 17,735. The same distribution is reproduced across multiple recruitment portals from the official notification.

The recruitment notification was released on October 23, with online applications running from October 24 to November 23 and a written examination scheduled for December 23 and 24, according to the published schedule. The Samajwadi Party has long argued that BJP governments implement EWS reservation in ways that reduce the effective share of backward and Dalit communities — an allegation the UP government has consistently denied in the past. No response from the state government to Yadav's Sunday post was reported at the time of publishing, and the quota charge remains an allegation.
