Police chased the suspects towards the Bahalolpur underpass, where, realising they were surrounded, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team. Officers retaliated in self-defence, and two of the accused were shot in the legs and overpowered, police said. The remaining two were caught in a combing operation that followed.

The two injured men were identified in local reporting as Vikas, also called Kalu, 27, a resident of Delhi, and Rajesh, also called Tedha, 38, of Vasai village in Noida; the other two were named as Shankar Sharma, 20, and Kapil Kashyap, 20. Both injured men were sent to hospital for treatment. Reports said 22 cases had earlier been registered against Vikas and 18 against Rajesh, including robbery cases — these are police records as reported, and the allegations in them are yet to be proved in court.

Police seized two country-made pistols, live cartridges and two knives from the accused, and impounded the two motorcycles allegedly used in the incidents.
