PHOENIX, Arizona — Detectives with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) are asking for the public's help identifying drivers and vehicles involved in a fatal five-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 10 near 107th Avenue in west Phoenix, the department said in an appeal carried by local Phoenix reporting on October 24.

The collision happened at about 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, near milepost 133, DPS said. A westbound motorcycle first collided with another vehicle, ejecting the rider. The motorcycle then continued a short distance without its rider and struck a pickup truck.

At least two more vehicles then struck the rider, DPS said. One was described as a dark-coloured Kia passenger car that left the scene; another was a light-coloured SUV or crossover. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS has not released the rider's identity.

The department's Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call DPS at 1-877-429-8477 or submit a tip at azdps.gov/tips, referencing incident number I26063966. Interstate 10 is one of the main east-west trucking corridors through Phoenix, and troopers routinely appeal for dashcam footage and witness accounts in fatal freeway crashes where a vehicle leaves the scene.
