The investigation began on Oct. 6, when the FBI notified the Corona Police Department that it had found social media communications indicating planning was under way for a potential future attack at Corona High School, according to a police statement reported by MyNewsLA.

Detectives served search warrants for electronic devices and communications at several residences in Riverside County. They first arrested a 15-year-old Corona High School student and then identified and arrested a second 15-year-old student from Norco High School.

What police say they found

Evidence showed the two had spent several months researching school shootings and discussed how they could carry out an attack on an unspecified future date, including methods to obtain weapons — but they had not been able to obtain any, and no weapons were located during the searches.

Both students remained in custody for suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder while the Riverside County District Attorney's office reviews the case, police said. The allegations have not been proven in court.

Corona police said they worked with the FBI, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office and the Corona-Norco Unified School District. FBI Director Kash Patel was quoted in separate coverage as saying a potential act of targeted violence against a Southern California high school was disrupted before anyone was harmed.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Corona Police Detective George Edwards at 951-279-3656. Awaaz Punjab is not naming the students because they are minors.
