A multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig shut down all southbound lanes of Highway 99 in Elk Grove, Sacramento County, on Monday night, in a collision that left four people injured, according to officials.
KCRA 3 reported that four people were injured in the multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig on Highway 99 on Monday night. FOX40 reported that the California Highway Patrol said the big rig crash closed all southbound Highway 99 lanes near Laguna Boulevard and caused major traffic delays in the area, with drivers urged to use alternate routes.
Highway 99 is one of the Central Valley's main trucking corridors, used daily by thousands of commercial drivers — including many Punjabi truckers who live and work across the Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto and Fresno corridor. Lane closures on this stretch quickly back up freight and commuter traffic in both directions.
Authorities had not released the cause of the crash or the conditions of the injured as of this report. Drivers heading through Elk Grove were advised to expect delays and check live traffic updates before travelling.
