Mejia said it appeared an unhoused person was on the railroad tracks, was hit by a southbound Amtrak train, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He said the person had no affiliation with Fresno City College. Fire trucks, ambulances and a helicopter responded, and campus police assisted Fresno police in establishing a scene, The Rampage reported.
Campus police barricaded Staff Parking Lot P, behind the Health Sciences Building, from approximately 10:55 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., and students received automated 'First-to-Know' text alerts at 10:56 a.m. and 12:48 p.m. informing them of law-enforcement activity near the college, Mejia said.
