Fresno City Council candidate Naindeep Singh told reporters on Monday, October 26, that he expects his 'full exoneration' from two citations issued after a weekend traffic stop, and shared an independent toxicology report that he said showed no drugs in his system.

Singh, 48, a nonprofit executive, Central Unified School District board member and candidate for Fresno's District 1 council seat, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office confirmed he was cited and released rather than booked into jail, which a spokesperson described as standard practice for DUI cases.

According to Singh's account at the news conference, the stop began over registration tags that he said had been ripped off his vehicle, and he said he showed the officer documents proving his registration was current. He said he then passed field sobriety and breathalyser tests, before officers took him to Community Regional Medical Center, where his blood was drawn for a toxicology test.

Singh said the independent toxicology report, taken at the hospital on his wife's recommendation, showed no drugs in his system at the time officers took their own sample. Supporters had earlier posted copies of what appeared to be toxicology reports showing negative results for both drugs and alcohol.

Fresno police declined to comment on the case on Monday morning. A police spokesperson said the department was 'not providing any additional details on this one,' and Fresnoland reported that police said their own toxicology results are pending.

Singh was cited for driving with unregistered tags and for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. The DUI allegation remains an allegation and has not been proven in court. The District 1 race, in which Singh faces Rob Fuentes, is one of the most competitive on Fresno's ballot, with just over a week until Election Day.
