ICE said Trinidad Ortega's criminal history includes convictions for two counts of driving under the influence of liquor, two counts of cruelty towards his wife, obstructing a police officer, and battery and assault of a police officer. Reporting based on documents obtained by the Daily Caller gave the same list of convictions and the same October 18 arrest date, independently matching the agency's account.

During the arrest, ICE said, Trinidad Ortega refused several lawful commands and attempted to evade arrest by barricading his body under his vehicle. After officers detained him, he complained of head pain, was taken to a hospital for evaluation, was medically cleared, and was then transferred to ICE custody, where ICE said he will remain pending removal proceedings.

ICE said Trinidad Ortega first entered the United States in 2002, was ordered removed by an immigration judge and was removed in October 2002. He entered again at an unknown time and place and was removed again in August 2014, and entered again at an unknown date and time, ICE said. He remains in ICE custody pending reinstatement of removal to Mexico, according to the agency.

"Any illegal alien ICE finds will be deported," Micah Bock, ICE assistant director for public affairs, said in the agency's statement. "ICE is prioritizing Americans' safety, and that starts with removing these violent criminals from our communities." That is the agency's stated position; no court finding in this arrest itself was announced in the reports.
