Southbound Interstate 5 at the Yolo Bypass, north of the Sacramento River and Sacramento International Airport, will close fully at night starting tonight, Sunday, October 25, Caltrans District 3 said in its updated advisory. The southbound nightly closures run from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through October 30.

Caltrans said the schedule was rescheduled because of inclement weather and schedule conflicts. Crews will remove and replace multiple bridge joints along I-5 at the Yolo Bypass, and only one direction will close at a time.
What truckers and airport travellers should do
Commercial trucking is urged to use State Route 113 (SR-113) to Interstate 80 (I-80), and drivers should expect delays and extended travel times, Caltrans said. The County Road 22 detour is for local traffic only.
Caltrans said the southbound closure is expected to affect motorists travelling from the Woodland area towards the airport, and urged travellers to plan their route in advance and allow enough time to reach Sacramento International Airport for departures. The agency said the northbound closure should not delay the public from making scheduled departures.
Northbound closures follow in November
After the southbound work, northbound I-5 nightly full closures at the Yolo Bypass are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., November 1 through November 6, according to Caltrans. The work is described by the agency as necessary for workers' and motorists' safety, and motorists are urged to pay close attention to advance warnings and detour signs.
