California Highway Patrol officers issued 279 citations and placed 28 trucks and 13 drivers out of service in a single day of commercial vehicle enforcement near Newhall, north of Los Angeles, according to trucking trade reports citing the CHP.

The one-day operation on October 13 was run by the CHP's Newhall division together with the Southern Division Commercial Unit, and focused on commercial vehicle safety and compliance, Overdrive reported. The 279 citations included mechanical violations, improper lane use, speeding and non-emergency stops on the freeway.

A total of 28 vehicles and 13 drivers were placed out of service for various mechanical and operator violations, Truckers News reported in its summary of the same CHP operation — yaani those trucks and drivers were not allowed to continue until the violations were addressed.

For Punjabi truckers who run Southern California corridors, the CHP used the blitz to repeat its standing reminders: never stop on the freeway unless it is an emergency or otherwise permitted by law; stay in your designated lane and follow lane-use rules; obey posted speed limits and vehicle speed restrictions; plan routes ahead and take breaks only in legally permitted places; and complete a pre-trip safety inspection before every trip.
