AUBURN, Calif. — Interstate 80 traffic in Placer County was heavily congested on Monday morning after a pickup truck crashed into a construction zone, the California Highway Patrol's Auburn division said, according to KCRA.

The crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. on westbound I-80 near West Paoli Lane, north of Auburn, CHP said. A picture shared by CHP showed the pickup truck on its side, over the center median and inside the construction zone, KCRA reported.

The truck appeared to be missing its rear tires, and a trailer the truck was carrying also went over the median, according to KCRA's report of the CHP update. KCRA described the injuries in the crash as minor; CHP did not release the driver's name in the update reported by KCRA.

At the time of the report, one lane was open on the westbound side, but CHP said it anticipated a full closure of the westbound lanes to allow towing crews to remove the vehicle and clear the roadway, KCRA reported.

No cause for the crash was given in the CHP update. I-80 is a major trucking corridor over the Sierra Nevada, and drivers heading west toward Sacramento were advised by the congestion reported at the scene to expect delays.
