A man struck by a vehicle early on Sunday, October 25, in San Francisco's Tenderloin district died in hospital, and police arrested the driver later that morning after the vehicle was stopped on Treasure Island, the San Francisco Police Department said.

Police said officers responded at about 1:06 a.m. to the 800 block of Ellis Street, where they found the injured pedestrian. Officers gave aid before he was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. His identity has not been released.

The driver and vehicle had left before officers arrived. Investigators traced the vehicle to Treasure Island, where California Highway Patrol officers had already stopped it for an unrelated traffic violation, according to police.

San Francisco officers told the CHP about the fatal collision and arrested the driver, an adult woman. She was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of homicide, police said. Her name has not been released, citing the ongoing investigation, and the vehicle was towed and is being processed for evidence.
