VALLEJO, Calif. — A 71-year-old Vallejo man was killed early Thursday after he was struck by two vehicles on westbound Interstate 80 at the Interstate 780 interchange, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Solano Area officers were called shortly after 2:30 a.m. on October 22 following a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash. Officers spoke with the driver of a Tesla involved in the collision, a 26-year-old San Francisco man who was cooperative and shared dash-camera video, CHP said.

According to CHP, the driver said the vehicle was in Full Self-Driving mode at the time. A preliminary review of the video showed the Tesla travelling about 70 mph when the pedestrian entered the freeway from the right shoulder toward the centre divide, and the car braked and steered left before its right front struck the man, CHP said.

Officers said the man appeared to have been struck by at least one additional vehicle while lying in the roadway, and no other vehicle stopped. CHP did not release the man's name and said it has no description of the other vehicle or vehicles involved.
