WASHINGTON — Former FBI Director James Comey is facing a third criminal case from President Donald Trump's administration, the latest accusing him of sharing sensitive national security information, according to court documents made public on Monday, Reuters reported.

Comey was charged with transmitting and conspiring to transmit national defense information in October 2016, according to a court document cited by Reuters. The charges are allegations only; Comey has not been convicted in this case.

CNBC reported that the case was brought by criminal complaint in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. — a complaint is a charging filing, not a grand-jury indictment. Reporting on the complaint said it alleges Comey directed an unnamed person, acting through one or more co-conspirators, to disclose national defense information to a reporter for a national news publication.

Comey said in a video on Instagram that "they're back again" and referenced the Justice Department, but did not provide further details. "I'm still innocent," he added, Reuters reported. Comey's lawyers have already asked a judge to dismiss the case.

Trump removed Comey as head of the FBI in May 2017, during the bureau's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Reuters described this as the third criminal case brought against Comey by the Trump administration; the outcome will be decided by the court.
