Eddrick Malik Bethune, 22, was found dead on the morning of October 4 near Southwest 216th Street and Southwest 189th Avenue in South Miami-Dade, after he was allegedly taken from the parking lot of the Aliro Apartments at 14040 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami shortly after midnight, investigators say.

According to the affidavit account, the group arrived in a rented gray Toyota Camry fitted with red and blue emergency lights. Men wearing black shirts marked “POLICE” allegedly ordered Bethune to the ground, handcuffed him and took his cellphone and apartment keys.

Investigators say suspects then entered Bethune's third-floor apartment, where a second person inside opened fire with an AK-47-type rifle. Devorise Carl Johnson, 21, was wounded in the exchange, the suspects fled — some jumping from the apartment windows, according to surveillance footage described in the reporting — and Johnson was dropped at Jackson North Medical Center.

The remaining suspects allegedly drove Bethune to the area near Southwest 216th Street, shot him multiple times, and later drove the Camry to Southwest 248th Street and Southwest 157th Avenue and set it on fire, according to the arrest report.

Naquon Jahrell Fagan, 25, was arrested on Wednesday, October 21, while officers executed a search warrant at his home in Miami, WPLG reported. Investigators said the Camry's rental agreement was in Fagan's name, and that cellphone data and surveillance video placed him at the scene and at a nearby Family Dollar hours earlier, where footage reportedly shows him buying black gloves matching those worn by a suspect during the abduction.

Johnson was arrested earlier this month. Miami-Dade corrections records show both Johnson and Fagan remain in custody, and police records suggest as many as five people may have played a role in the slaying, WPLG reported. Court records did not immediately list upcoming hearing dates.
