At this time, the number of victims and the extent of their injuries are unknown, the department said. Community members were encouraged to avoid the area while officers conduct their investigation, and police said additional updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
Florida A&M University issued a public safety alert at about 8:40 p.m., shortly after FAMU's homecoming football loss, warning: Police activity near Bragg Stadium and Perry Street — avoid the area or shelter in place if nearby. The university did not immediately say whether anyone connected to the university was among the victims, and no such connection has been established by authorities.
People on Perry Street posted accounts of running and taking cover as police responded, according to the Democrat's reporting. A Tallahassee police watch commander was not immediately available when the alert was first issued.
This is a developing story. Awaaz Punjab has not used casualty counts circulating online, because police had not confirmed any number, any death, or any suspect as of Saturday night.
