Preliminary information indicates that at about 6:48 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, Woodstock officers responded to a suspicious-person call near Paden Street and Maple Street and found a man, later identified as Nijm Scott, 38, of Roswell, in a retention pond, the GBI said.

According to the GBI's preliminary account, Scott threatened to shoot anyone who approached him, then stated he was going to start shooting and made a sudden movement. Law enforcement shot at Scott, hitting him. Officers then removed Scott from the pond, and Woodstock and Cherokee fire crews treated his injuries at the scene. Scott was taken to an area hospital, where he is in stable condition, the GBI said. The account is preliminary and the investigation is active and ongoing.

Two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and were treated at an area hospital, the GBI said. The bureau did not say in its release how the officers were injured. Separate local reporting on the shooting said Cherokee County Sheriff's deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers also attended the scene to assist, and that the suspect and both officers were taken to hospital.
