Police said it was just after 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 — about 9:09 p.m. — when an officer was flagged down near East North Street and North Van Buren Avenue about a car that appeared to be stalled on the overpass. When officers reached the vehicle, they found it was still rolling and both people inside had suffered gunshot wounds. Officers forced entry, stopped the car and began lifesaving measures.

Interstate 57 is the main north-south highway through Kankakee County, linking Chicago with central and southern Illinois, and the North Street overpass is a local crossing in Bradley used by residents and through traffic. Police did not report any wider road closure in their statements carried by local outlets.
