American Airlines Flight 41, arriving from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport in Spain, landed safely at Chicago O'Hare International Airport at about 2:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, October 20, after the crew reported a brake issue and then a blown tire, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said, in statements reported by USA TODAY and ABC7 Chicago. The FAA said it will investigate the incident.

The Boeing 787 was carrying 234 passengers and 11 crew members, American Airlines said. Passengers left the aircraft using stairs on the tarmac and were transported by bus to the terminal, the FAA and the airline said. One passenger, John Abbate, described hearing a really big boom when the plane landed, Simple Flying reported.

The Chicago Fire Department initially reported that two tires were flat when crews reached the scene, ABC7 Chicago reported. ABC7 also reported that one person was taken to a hospital in good condition, while it worked to determine whether that person was injured during the landing. American Airlines, in its statement to USA TODAY, said no injuries were reported and that first responders met the aircraft out of an abundance of caution.

American said the aircraft was removed from service so its maintenance team could inspect it, and it apologised to passengers for the disruption. The cause of the reported brake problem was not immediately known, and the FAA investigation was still under way on Wednesday, October 21, USA TODAY reported.
