A fire that began in a second-floor unit of a 16-unit apartment building in Deerfield, Illinois, on Saturday evening sent two residents to area hospitals and temporarily displaced most of the building's occupants, fire officials said. Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Department crews were dispatched at about 7:30 p.m. on October 24 to the 1200 block of Deerfield Road and extinguished the fire, according to the department.

Sections of the building were heavily damaged and all 16 units were without power after the fire, according to the department, and the Red Cross was aiding displaced families. A total of 16 apartments were impacted, CBS Chicago reported. Most residents could not immediately return because utilities had been shut off while damage assessments continued on Sunday.
