MOKENA, Illinois — A semi-truck crash on Friday closed multiple lanes on Interstate 80 near LaGrange Road in Mokena, Will County, Illinois State Police said, in an incident ABC7 Chicago reported as a semi crash blocking traffic in both directions at one of the Chicago area's busiest trucking corridors.

Emergency dispatch audio from the scene, transcribed by CrimeRadar, described a semi with a double trailer that smashed into the centre wall on the westbound side of I-80, just west of LaGrange Road around mile marker 143. Responders reported concrete debris from the wall across both the westbound and eastbound lanes, said the westbound lanes were completely shut down, and said eastbound lane one was also shut down, with an Illinois Department of Transportation crew requested at the scene.

In a second dispatch transcript, responders reported the semi had hit the median near mile marker 144.5, that its saddle tank had ruptured across the highway, and that there was complete blockage westbound and narrowed lanes eastbound. The same dispatch audio indicated there was one truck driver and no other occupants, that no other vehicle was damaged, and that the driver refused medical care. Those dispatch details are preliminary radio reports, not a final official account.

Illinois State Police had not announced a cause for the crash or a reopening time as of Friday evening. I-80 through Will County is a major east-west freight route used heavily by long-haul truckers, and a full westbound closure at LaGrange Road was expected to cause long delays while crews cleared concrete debris and the damaged truck. Drivers in the area were advised to expect delays and to check Illinois State Police and IDOT updates before travelling.
