A Lake County jury has found a former Park City police officer guilty of 20 felony counts over assaults during two traffic stops while he was on duty, prosecutors said.
Patrick Cacho, 29, was convicted on Wednesday, October 21, of offences including aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery and official misconduct, according to reporting by The Chicago Focal on October 22, citing prosecutors.
Prosecutors said Cacho sexually abused a woman during two traffic stops in the northern suburbs in December 2025 and January 2026, threatened her with criminal charges before assaulting her, and failed to activate his body-worn camera or document either stop.
A friend of the woman later reported the assaults to Park City police, the report said. Illinois State Police arrested Cacho in April after an investigation that included phone records supporting the woman's allegations, prosecutors said.
The Illinois State Police, in its own earlier press release on the arrest, said its Division of Criminal Investigation investigated an allegation against a part-time Park City officer at the department's request, presented the case to the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, and that charges were approved. That release described the charges at arrest stage; the jury's verdict this week is the conviction.
Cacho faces up to seven years in prison for the most serious charge and must register as a sex offender for life, the Focal report said. He is scheduled to return to court on December 17.
