SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A man from rural Springfield is facing child pornography charges following an investigation by the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office. Gregory A. The investigation started in September when investigators became aware of a potential sexual assault of a child, the sheriff's office said. Investigators identified a suspect, and on October 16 they served a search warrant at his home, seizing numerous electronic devices along with the suspect's personal cellphone, WCIA and Capitol City Now reported. Capitol City Now, citing court records, said the search was in the 1200 block of North Oaklane Road and that McDonald faces six felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.

Court records show the warrant for McDonald's arrest was issued on Friday, and he was arrested at his home at 3 p.m. that day, WCIA reported. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sangamon County Jail, where he spent the weekend behind bars, and he remains in the Sangamon County Jail, Capitol City Now reported.

"Detectives continue to investigate and conduct forensic examinations of the seized devices. Additional criminal charges may be forthcoming," sheriff's officials said. The sheriff's office thanked the Illinois Attorney General's Office and the Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office for their assistance in the investigation.

McDonald has yet to appear before a judge for arraignment and a detention hearing, WCIA reported, and it was not clear when his next court appearance will be, Capitol City Now said. The charges are allegations, and McDonald is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No minor is identified in the sheriff's office account or in this report.
