Evansville police were first called at about 5 p.m. on August 27, 2025, to a home in the 3300 block of East Gum Street after a call about a medical emergency, the Tampa Free Press reported. First responders found Susan Haynie unresponsive and pronounced her dead at the scene. Police initially handled the case as a death investigation before shifting it to a homicide investigation.
Investigators believe Parkman entered the home through an unlocked door before killing Haynie, local CBS and Fox affiliate WEVV reported, in reporting cited by Law&Crime. Law&Crime also reported that evidence cited by investigators included a tablet that indicated Parkman had been in Haynie's yard around the time of her death, and the Tampa Free Press reported that police filed a probable-cause affidavit after preliminary forensic testing connected him to the scene.
Parkman had been released on parole in February 2025 after serving 13 years of a 35-year sentence, WEVV reported. His earlier convictions, from a crime spree between 2008 and 2010, included burglary, robbery and attempted rape, according to that reporting. The Tampa Free Press reported he was first taken into custody on unrelated charges and initially pleaded not guilty before changing his plea.
Parkman is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2, according to the court records reviewed by Law&Crime. No sentence was announced with the plea in the reporting reviewed for this story.
