The Indiana State Police conducted a focused enforcement patrol targeting commercial motor vehicles transporting oversized loads in violation of their permit provisions, the agency said in a news release reported by The Trucker on October 23.

"The patrol involved Indiana State Police troopers and motor carrier inspectors working together to ensure commercial motor vehicles transporting oversized loads comply with applicable state laws, safety regulations, and permit requirements," ISP stated.
Depending on a load's dimensions and weight, permits can restrict the hours a vehicle may travel, and certain permits limit movement to daylight hours only, ISP said. Troopers specifically looked for trucks operating outside their authorized hours in violation of permit provisions.
During the patrol, troopers and inspectors conducted 11 Level II and Level III commercial motor vehicle inspections under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration procedures, ISP said. The effort resulted in 11 citations, 24 violations documented on inspection reports, and 11 oversize load permits revoked, according to the agency.

ISP reminded motorists to remain alert around commercial vehicles transporting oversized loads and to report to the Indiana State Police any operations transporting oversized loads before daylight hours.
For Punjabi and other truck drivers running oversize loads through Indiana — the self-described Crossroads of America, crossed by I-65, I-70 and I-80/90 freight corridors — the practical takeaway is direct: check the hours and route conditions written on the permit before rolling, because this patrol treated out-of-hours movement as a permit violation serious enough to revoke the permit on the spot, according to ISP's account.
