A woman was hospitalized after being shot in the arm early Sunday morning in an alley in the 1100 block of Bardstown Road in Louisville's Highlands district, Louisville Metro Police said.

Officers responded just after 3 a.m. and found the woman with a gunshot wound to the arm. She was taken to UofL Hospital with injuries police described as not life-threatening. Speaking to WDRB/WAVE from her hospital room on Sunday evening, she said she was recovering from surgery, had been walking to her car when she was struck, and did not know any of the people involved.
LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit believes the shooting took place in an alley behind the Atomic nightclub, and police said all parties involved have been accounted for. No charges had been announced.

Atomic's owner, Dustin Hensley, disputes the location. In a statement and interview reported by WDRB/WAVE, he said a fight broke out in the alley, two males wrestled on the ground and a firearm went off — and that this happened behind a neighbouring bar, not behind Atomic. He said his club's off-duty officers first heard the shots and called the incident in, that the woman was not an Atomic customer according to the club's ID scanner logs, and that he has video footage from the neighbouring establishment.
The exact location of the gunfire therefore remains contested between police and the club owner while the investigation continues. Hensley noted the club was shut for a period earlier this year after a separate fight escalated into a shooting in the public right-of-way nearby, and said the club was later cleared in that case.
